Inkululeko Black Lives Matter statement
Our hearts are lifted with the strength of those using their voices and actions in response to the police killing of George Floyd as well as the #BlackLivesMatter protests in Minneapolis and across the world. In Xhosa, one of the eleven languages of the Rainbow Nation, Inkululeko means freedom. Inkululeko stands in solidarity with black and brown communities whose freedoms are being devalued. Our organization denounces any form of violence against the black and brown community, any unjust system of oppression that continually reinforce the subjugation and expendability of brown and black individuals, and the addition to and maintenance of black generational trauma. Inkululeko was born from the idea of providing sustainable tools to black underserved communities in South Africa which have experienced Apartheid. Our work hopes to dismantle these white-centric and white-normative institutions of racism by harnessing the transformative power of education and achieving true equality for our students. This is our call to action for solidarity and allyship. For more information, please visit our blog section on https://www.inkululeko.org.
